For decades, Schweinfurt was home to an important U.S. Army community in northern Bavaria. The city hosted several military installations, housing areas and support facilities that were part of the American presence in Germany during the Cold War and beyond.
These photographs and historic videos look back at former U.S. Army locations in Schweinfurt, preserving memories of places that once shaped everyday military life. Conn Barracks, Ledward Barracks and Askren Manor Housing Area represented different parts of this community – from military operations and support facilities to the homes of Soldiers and their families.
The U.S. Army presence in Schweinfurt ended in 2014. Since then, the former military areas have been transformed for civilian use. This archive documents selected locations and preserves a visual record of Schweinfurt's American military history.
