The Skyline Housing Area at Leighton Barracks was more than just a place to live. It was a small American community on the hill above Würzburg, with everything military families needed during their time overseas.
Back in the day, children growing up at Leighton Barracks had their own schools, a kindergarten and a youth center right in their neighborhood.
Thousands of Army kids spent their school years here, making friends, attending classes and creating memories far away from home.
These photos show the places where everyday life happened — classrooms, playgrounds and meeting points that were an important part of the former U.S. Army community in Würzburg.
