Larson Barracks
Harvey Barracks
Marshall Heigh
For decades, Kitzingen was home to a strong U.S. Army presence — from Harvey Barracks and Larson Barracks to the Marshall Heights Housing Area. These posts were the daily AO for 3rd ID and later 1st ID troops, a mix of garrison life, training, support missions and family housing that shaped the entire military community in the region.
Harvey Barracks, with its airfield roots going back to 1917, served as a key hub for flight ops, logistics and later division-level units. Larson Barracks handled everything from motorpool action to admin and support elements that kept the mission rolling. And Marshall Heights? That was home base for soldiers, families and civilians — a full American neighborhood right in the heart of Franconia.
After the 2007 drawdown, the sites went quiet and were handed back to Germany. Today, these former Army posts stand as historic landmarks and impressive reminders of the U.S. military era in Kitzingen — a mix of heritage, stories and unmistakable “old-Army” atmosphere.
