Roman Hill Firing Range in Gerbrunn was the old-school US Army small-arms playground for the troops rolling out of Leighton Barracks, Würzburg — a no-nonsense hillside patch where soldiers ran their weapons quals, zeroed rifles, and kept their trigger discipline tight. Dirt in your boots, brass on the ground, targets getting smoked — pure, unfiltered Army training vibes.
Today, that same 8.2-hectare stretch has traded live fire for laid-back living: the former range now packs zones for nature recreation, play and sports areas, and even a TinyHouse section up north for folks looking to kick back in a “recreation/holiday home” setup. Down south and out east, wide-open spaces invite visitors to roam, breathe, and soak in the landscape where soldiers once dialed in their sights.
